Our Story
IndependentlyPR (IPR): is a boutique public relations brand located in Washington, DC founded by LaWanda White in January 2011.
At IPR our focus is “building bridges for your brand!” This is not just a play on alliteration, but the jetset way of thinking and performing for our clients. We are skilled publicists, using strategic plans and our relationships with the media to enhance images and build strong reputations. We protect images and are the face for our clients as well as the liaison between them and their audiences. More specifically, we are responsible for organizing community and volunteer programs, reviews, sponsorships, managing crises as well as obtaining publicity through TV, radio and print mediums.
Though a small but growing organization, we have been fortunate to support many up and coming brands as well as recognized industry artists/events including: the legendary Rakim Concert, Tanya Blount’s Happy Brown Girl Campaign, No Malice’s first TEDx Talk at Georgetown University, Maino’s Digital Mixtape Release Campaign + Tour press, Ben Tankard’s Valentine’s Day Concert, Kevin Shine’s publicity and many others. We have also volunteered our services to benefit non-profit organizations such as Face Up 2 Cancer, the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer and the Tigerlily Foundation.
Alongside developing creative and unique client campaigns, LaWanda has also expanded the firm into an online streaming radio show where she is known by her moniker La The Power Publicist alongside her comedic co-host, Capitol T. The Launch Party fuses public relations with comedy to discuss pop culture, business + current events and its PR impacts. The show has quickly, received a growing number of domestic and international attention as the duo has interviewed local and mainstream icons across industries including, Paul Brunson host of Lovetown USA on OWN, Tamar Braxton, Kid Ink, Matthew Kemp (manager for Rakim), RocNation’s Bridget Kelly. Karl Lawrence (manager for Maino), Alisha Brooks (Pop platinum-selling songwriter), Anje Collins (Founder of Women In PR), and many others.
As a boutique public relations organization we are innovative and creative and understand the challenges of finding the right Publicist, so here’s our SCOPE:
